Barnes TSX bullet field report

Postby Fourthwind » Tue Oct 28, 2008 12:26 pm

I recovered a bullet from my Bull. It's the first elk I have harvested using my load topped with the Barnes TSX bullet. Load is a 30-06 at about 2800 FPS using H4350. The bullet lost only 6 out of 168 grains! This is after hitting heavy bone on the far side of the animal. The shot by the way was 38 yards, which is why I slowed this load down. ( I have had loads with this bullet up to 2925 with no case problems) We hunt dark timber and never have more than a 60 yard shooting lane. It also improved the groups about .25"

Thought you were using Varget in that load?

I used varget in the high speed load. The low speed loads the H4350 actually grouped a bit better. Of course I am talking only a 1/4 inch difference, but then again I am picky with my loads. My group went from .80 to average .55 with one group at .46. Not bad for the old 30-06
