When is the best time to go? What kind of tackle and gear should you have? Where is the best place to go?

the trend nowadays for Bonefish and Tarpon seems to be with a heavier Fly Rod...9 ft stiff action rodshooting an 7-9 weight line for casting 50+ feet...sight fishing is popular on flats...a local fly shop can always have the best suggestions for what lures to use...

South Florida and The Keys has lots of these fish...and wading without a boat is a good(and economical) way to do this...the shorelines can go for miles and still be wade able...of course getting on a charter or having a boat can take you to lots of great spots too...a lot of my old clients also like to fly fish for this species...

The Bass Pro in Islamorada would be a great place to go for gear and flies if you are down there on a vacation ...that is Tarpon and Bonefish heaven...and that is a cool place to check out in Jimmy Buffet land...t
